The Seasons

Spring months (March & April) are cool and fresh but the trees are laden with blossoms and the mustard seeds are bright yellow in the fields. In May and June the weather is very pleasant and is the most popular time to visit.

August is hot but most go on excursions to the hill resorts such as Gulmarg, Pahlgam or Sonamarg.

By September the tourists are back for to Srinigar for shopping and visiting the many scenic spots in and around the valley. Autumn is clear and cool, the most pleasant season of all. Saffron plants bloom in November and there is a spectacular change in colour.

The lower-level snows begin around the end of December and the mountains are covered by January and February which is ideal for the new skiing facilities.
